Upkeep: D&D 5e Shop Economics
So your adventurers want to run a business? Upkeep will help you understand how much they should make and give you random complications that might affect their weekly revenues.
About this project
What it does
Upkeep models what happens after adventurers become business owners. Enter the shop’s operating assumptions to estimate revenue and profit over a week, then introduce complications that turn the numbers into story: shortages, accidents, rivals, unusual customers, staff problems, and other events that can help or hurt the bottom line.
The calculator gives the Dungeon Master a repeatable economic baseline without pretending to be a full accounting system. Its randomized results can be used as downtime resolution, a campaign prompt, or the starting point for a new side quest.
What you can do
- Estimate weekly income and operating results for a player-run business
- Adjust the assumptions behind a shop’s performance
- Generate random events that raise or reduce revenue
- Use complications as downtime scenes or adventure hooks
- Repeat the process as the business and campaign change
