Creature
Ulcaster Wizshade
An unstable magical remnant in Ulcaster's ruins that mimics a tall bearded wizard or a battered hat and discharges fragments of old spells.
General description
The wizshade is not a coherent ghost. It is a recurring magical impression created by the academy's destruction and reawakened by Mordas's ritual. It responds to restored wards and academic phrases more reliably than to attacks.
Key facts
- The shade can expose false hauntings by passing through an illusion without disturbing it.
- Speaking the old dismissal phrase found in the archive quiets it for 1 hour.
- Destroying its current manifestation does not end the haunting permanently.
Running the shade
Treat the wizshade as a scene hazard rather than a combatant. At initiative count 20 it discharges one minor effect from the scene table unless the party has restored a ward or spoken the dismissal phrase.
