Introduction
Shiallia, Dancer in the Glades, governs woodland glades, woodland fertility, high forest, neverwinter wood. The earthy Daughter of the High Forest tends births, growth, and the lived fertility of woodland communities. She works closely with Mielikki, Lurue, and Gwaeron Windstrom.
Druids, farmers, foresters, gardeners, and newly married couples seek her blessing. Her clergy plants, midwives, restores exhausted soil, and fiercely opposes creatures that consume a forest without allowing renewal.
The god sends an avatar when a forest can no longer renew itself, when unnatural barrenness threatens a people, or when growth must be restrained before it chokes what it was meant to nourish. This is a killable vessel of divine will, not the god’s complete being, and its defeat changes the crisis without ending the faith behind it.
Physical Appearance
Shiallia appears as a sturdy brown-skinned woman with cropped green-black hair, bare feet, and fitted green work clothes. She holds Forest’s Friend, a living quarterstaff with one golden acorn set firmly into its head.
Her hands are soil-stained and her low voice carries rough humor. Plants do not float or bloom around her; existing roots instead turn toward her steps and press deeper into the earth.
Roleplaying the Avatar
Shiallia is warm, blunt, and practical. She speaks freely about birth, hunger, desire, and death, and measures every plan by what will still grow afterward.
- Ask who will tend the result after the heroes leave.
- Use earthy jokes to puncture ceremony.
- Feed someone before negotiating.
- Touch the ground when considering a promise.
- Become cold toward waste, sterility imposed as punishment, or needless clearing.
Use in a Campaign
The Barren Ring
A perfect circle of infertility expands through the High Forest, but its center shelters a dangerous newborn power.
Too Much Spring
Shiallia’s blessing accelerates growth until farms, roads, and lungs begin filling with roots.
The Weeds’ Claim
Settlers call native woodland “weeds” and ask the goddess to bless their clear-cutting.
A Divine Midwife
The avatar needs mortal help delivering a forest spirit whose birth will redraw every boundary.
Lairs
Shiallia’s lairs make growth immediate and consequential. Wounds close with bark, footprints germinate, and neglected things compete violently for care.
The Golden Acorn Glade
Anything planted here grows overnight, including cursed items.
The Midwife Oak
Hollows in the trunk deliver creatures transformed by what their companions expect them to become.
The Lady’s Weed-Garden
Plants labeled useless hold cures for local plagues.
Neverwinter Nursery
Young treants copy the party’s behavior and repeat it against later visitors.
