Introduction
Milil, Lord of All Songs, governs poetry, song, eloquence. He is Oghma’s consummate performer, translating inspiration and knowledge into words that a listener will remember. He shares Lliira’s love of performance but treats craft and timing with greater discipline.
Bards, poets, singers, orators, and teachers seek his blessing. His clergy preserves songs, sponsors performers, and teaches that truth badly expressed may be as powerless as silence.
The god sends an avatar when one speech could end a war, when a stolen song reshapes public memory, or when art must carry knowledge across a catastrophe. This is a killable vessel of divine will, not the god’s complete being, and its defeat changes the crisis without ending the faith behind it.
Physical Appearance
Milil appears as a poised, clear-eyed court bard in fitted silver-blue clothes, with a five-stringed silver-leaf harp emblem fastened flat to his chest. He carries Sharptongue, a slender rapier balanced like a conductor’s baton.
His speaking voice always fits the room, from intimate whisper to battlefield declaration. No music surrounds him; instead, his footsteps and blade strokes establish a precise rhythm.
Roleplaying the Avatar
Milil is gracious, exacting, and attentive to audiences. He edits clumsy phrases aloud, rewards a well-timed silence, and distinguishes honest persuasion from manipulation.
- Repeat a speaker’s idea in clearer words before answering it.
- Ask who the intended audience is.
- Count beats on the rapier’s guard while considering.
- Never interrupt a sincere performance.
- When deceived, criticize the lie’s construction before its morality.
Use in a Campaign
The Unsingable Treaty
A peace accord cannot be remembered unless set to music, but every melody gives one side a hidden advantage.
Silence in the Archive
Someone erases a people’s history by killing every performer who knows its epics.
The Last Audience
Milil asks the party to bring one perfect song to a dying city that has forbidden public gatherings.
Sharptongue’s Debate
A demagogue challenges the avatar to a contest where each lost argument becomes a physical wound.
Lairs
Milil’s lairs make rhetoric and rhythm into force. Repeated lies fall out of meter, coordinated allies move as one, and words spoken at the wrong moment fail to carry.
The Five-String Hall
Each chamber responds to one voice in the party; harmony opens shortcuts while domination seals them.
The Amphitheater of Reply
Every attack creates an answering attack unless someone breaks the rhythm deliberately.
The Archive of Breath
Songs are stored as inhalations in crystal bottles, and opening one replaces the listener’s next words.
Sharptongue’s School
Students duel with speeches that alter the physical layout according to audience approval.
